In January 2014, CrossFit hosted its first Level 1 Seminar in Israel. Seminar Staff member Russell Berger took the opportunity to spend an extra week traveling the country, visiting its affiliates and experiencing the culture. In this six-part series, explore the Holy Land with Berger and the local community.

In Part 4, Berger is at the Jordan River, which is sandwiched between two minefields and serves as the border between Jordan and Israel.

“This is cool. This is something that wasn’t open until pretty recently because of the conflict between Israel and Jordan,” Berger says. “Now people can just come stick their hands in the water. … This is the source of life for civilization for hundreds of years—it was this water.”

Berger discovers there’s an affiliate in Amman, Jordan: CrossFit QuickSand. He’s curious about the conflict between the two countries and how that affects the greater CrossFit community in the area. CrossFit Modiin owner Murry Zborowski says the area’s turbulent history definitely limits interaction between boxes on opposite sides of the border.

At Level 1 Certificate Course at CrossFit Modiin, Berger sees the value in hosting the seminar there.

“You can tell they needed this, they needed a Level 1 because they’re putting their hands up and they’re asking questions that, really, if they would just be patient and listen, they’re in the lecture,” he says, “but they’re just so eager to know. They’re so excited.”

Yoga Upload with Maris Aylward - This is a hip opening yoga sequence for both intermediate and beginner students. There are many benefits from this practice, especially if you have been feeling some tightness or tension in the hip area or if you have been sitting for long periods of time. We "open the hips" by focusing on our lower body - stretching the hip flexors, quadriceps, inner and outer thighs, hamstrings, glutes, lower back, IT band, and more. There are also twists, mild backbends, and other poses to balance the practice. This yoga class can be used as a post-workout stretch routine as well.

We do mostly floor and seated poses (no standing sequence except for forward fold). The pace is slow and allows you to breathe and settle into the poses. Focus on truly being in the body and feeling the subtle energy and sensations in the postures.

If your knees are sensitive, make sure you have a towel or blanket to cushion the knees. Also, yoga props such as a block or blanket may be useful in some poses if you choose to use them. Modifications are offered for some of the poses so you can work at the intensity that is safe for you. A small screen will appear on the right to show you alternatives for the pose or how to use the props.

Oh, I love it when FMA brings out the acoustic guitar for a track! As dark as FMA can be at times, this theme represents the lighter side of the series where the main protagonists can just take a sigh of relieve and relax. It also sounds a little rustic as well, that just makes it all the more homely, though.

This is without a doubt, one of my favorite themes in the game-- top 3, I might add. So grand in scale yet heart warming toward the end especially in Meguro-san's arrangement. Too bad it's the theme of the soul crushing, four-floored Spiral Corridor, which marks the seventh stage in the nightmare world.

Половецкие пляски which translated from Russian is "Polovtsian Dances" in English, was part of an opera composed by Alexander Borodin as part of "Prince Igor" based upon 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘨𝘰𝘳'𝘴 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘨𝘯, an epic which outlines Igor Svyatoslavich's failed attempt to raid the Polovtsians of the Don River region.

The opera itself however, was left unfinished under Borodin as he passed away 1887 but was completed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Alexander Glazunov. Such a shame to never finish a creative work, all the more reason to live life to the fullest and that concludes tonight's trivia.

This little jingle plays when Sonic destroys an item monitor with the invincibility graphic on it. Afterwards and for short period of time, Sonic is immune to all damage except crushing and drowning-- make the most of it!

The "Final" confrontation between Sonic the Hedgehog and the dastardly Dr. Robotnik that takes place deep within Robotnik's stronghold city of Scrap Brain. This theme is first heard when Sonic tracks down the doctor however through a trap, Sonic winds up in the Labyrinth again for a short while until he eventually makes way back to the Final Zone... So does that mean Robotnik built Scrap Brain on top of some of South Islands ancient, underground labyrinths? How about some respect for historical preservation, Eggman!

We found a yellow jacket nest near the base of our pair tree. It’s about 50° in October so this nest is starting to go dormant, but there still little bit of activity. I was able to coat the surface of the nest with hornet spray and mix the poison in with a crowbar. Once we got the nest dissolved we filled dirt back in around the roots

Five of my favorite exercises to do using a Stability Ball to strengthen your core and back muscles.

Sizing can be tricky with these balls, but here's a general guideline to follow for finding the proper size for your height:

• Shorter than 5’ 6”: 55cm
• From 5’ 6” - 5’ 11”: 65cm
• From 6’ 0” - 6’ 4”: 75cm
• Taller than 6’ 4”: 85cm

Why do you want a stronger core? For spinal health, better balance and posture, and greater energy.
